This is a collection of studies linked by a common subject, but presented from different points of view and through the prism of diverse fragments of social , cultural and political reality. The researchers' objective boils down to the question of how the heritage of the regions in the Western and Northern Territories is perceived by German deportees and b5 Germans in general, by the different categories of the native population, as well as by the Polish immigrant population. Through no coincidence, the greater part of those monographs deals with the regions of Warmia, Masuria (southern Polish part of former East Prussia) and western Pomerania. Thus, those monographs complement the previous volume "The German cultural heritage in the Western and Northern Territories " [Wokol niemieckiego dziedzictwa kulturowego na Ziemiach Zachodnich i Pomocnych], Poznam 1997 - still available). This volume concentrated on the region of Lubin ` and on Upper Silesia. This publication also gives different views of the historical heritage of the regions locate in the Western and Northern Territories, which, moreover, are so different internally and distinct in their cultural identity. This work discusses three categories of the local population: the deportees, the immigrants and the native population. For tens of years to there has been an ongoing conflict as to the exclusive, the only "true" heritage of those territories. However, lately a new trend has been coming to the fore: a search for some common points of reference while recognizing the natural distinctness in the perception of the past.
